The Partnership originally comprised of both Sheffield Universities, the Chamber of Commerce, the Culture Consortium, Sheffield BID and Sheffield City Council - although has added other partners throughout this time, such as the Sheffield Property Association.
The original purpose of the group was to find a way to tell Sheffield’s story in our own, unique way. “Sheffield doesn’t shout enough about what it does” has been a common theme over the years. As the city has transitioned from heavy industry into more specialised manufacturing and subsequently expanded into a number of other sectors, telling the story has been more difficult, because there hasn’t been a common denominator or a place in which this story can be told.
We worked with Jaywing to produce the updated visual identity for Sheffield and created what is known as the ‘Sheffield Makes’ campaign, which centres around people being the inventive force of the city, using the grit, determination and ability to constantly make and re-make that underpins any project or initiative - be it in manufacturing, culture, digital, civil society or the outdoors.
January 2019 was the first time the new visual identity was used in re-launching The Outdoor City brand and website, and was followed shortly after with Phlegm’s ‘Mausoleum of the Giants’ exhibition. The Universities, Sheffield Property Association, Sheffield City Council and other key partners used the Sheffield brand and the Makes campaign thinking a number of times throughout 2019, and this website represents the accumulation of all that work and more - finally giving back to the City of Sheffield with a resource that can be used for any audience to shout more about why this is such a great place to live, visit, invest, work or study.
With all that said, we are acutely aware of the fact that there will be more going on that needs shouting about. You can only know what you know - and you can’t know everything. So that’s where we need your help.
This website is not intended as a news page or a comprehensive list of everything going on, so before you submit any information we’ve developed a bit of a checklist below so you can see how the criteria we have applied to the current content on the site could match up to what you want to tell us to see if it fits.
